steam supplies

One really crucial thing to remember about vaginal steaming is that this can be simple.

This self care modality is and has been practiced in homes all across this world, from high end, extravagant salons, to even the tiniest villages. Women have created elaborate steam therapy rooms, simply propped pillows and blankets around a steaming pot so they could rest above it, or even utilized environmental resources to facilitate the production of herbal steam and stood above the rising vapors. The spectrum of how to do this is widely expansive. There are many ways to make this work, and for it to work well, comfortably, and effectively. My point being that you can do this without fancy supplies, or expending lots of finance into the practice in order to get started.

That all being said, it can be so handy to have tools to extend herbs, to make the process easier, simpler and more doable in the day to day. So here in this post, I’ll keep a running list of tools and supplies that I’ve found to be valuable in my steam practice, and will add to this as more women share their experiences too. If you have things you think should be on this list, I’d love to hear them!

Portable burner — This burner is affordable and fits perfectly in the steam boxes that I build

Large Tea Ball — One example of a nice, large tea ball that makes it really simple to steep herbs twice, as well as easily return them to the earth when you are finished with them.

Steam Pot — I always love to recommend thrifting an old 2 quart soup pot and designating it for steam sessions, but sometimes they’re challenging to find! So here is an example of what you’d be looking for. I also recommend choosing a steam pot that brings a smile to your face, something beautiful or that overall suits your style.

As for cloaking, there are many options! I know there are specific cloaks made for wearing while steaming, and they are so beautiful and made with love and intention. I, however, have loved to use a nice thick blanket to wrap in that I can then carry to bed with me after a steam session to continue soaking in that gentle warmth.

I build both steam boxes and steam stools — reach out to inquire about either! Steam boxes are collapsible and come in a beautiful bag for easy transport and storage, while steam stools function more as a stationary piece that can double as a step stool.

Herbal formulas for steam sessions are best chosen after looking at the current needs of the body, identifying any imbalances and then catering herbs to support balancing. This is done in the womb care consults!
